With a sea life release, yoga for guests and employees, and an extensive schedule for Earth Day, April was a full on month of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities at Novotel Samui Resort Chaweng Beach Kandaburi.
On April 7, the hotel’s employees joined its sister hotel ibis Samui Bophut in a CSR activity to release fish into the sea. Both teams paid their respects to Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak and King Rama V monuments before the aquatic life release, which took place at Koh Samui Naval Support Base.
Then, during the Songkran holiday, and with the objective of reducing stress and promoting relaxation, the hotel offered a free Intro to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga workshop. International teacher Marcelo Saez—trained at renowned Shri K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India—gave a class for Novotel Samui’s guests on Sunday 16, and one for the hotel’s employees on Monday 17.
And for Earth Day, on April 22, several activities took place at the resort: Mr. & Ms. Tree gave free bottles of coconut oil for donations made towards Planet 21, AccorHotels’ sustainable development program; the kitchen team created the Planet 21 Cocktail (KS Koh Samui Rum, Thai basil, homemade lemongrass syrup, soda water, and lime) and the Planet 21 Mocktail (pineapple, honey, and Thai basil), made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, that were offered at @Beach Restaurant & Bar until the end of the month; the hotel staff also gave a free class where guests could learn how to make ka-la-mae (traditional Thai sweets); and stuffed elephants, coconut oil, and ka-la-mae were available for sale, again to gather funds for Planet 21.
To continue with its commitment to CSR, Novotel Samui is planning an ocean cleanup for May, together with the Thai Hotels Association Southern Subchapter Samui. This activity is aiming to collect more than 3,000 kilograms of garbage from under the water, during one day.
