True to its motto, the Rotary Club of Bangkok South is helping those who need help the most….
Who we are
The Rotary Club of Bangkok South is just one of many clubs in a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Together, working as a club and a team, we provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
How we help
Clean Drinking Water for Schools – Thailand is blessed with ample water resources, but the availability of clean drinking water is often a problem, particularly in upcountry areas. Many rural children drink untreated or poorly treated water at their schools.
Low-Income Communities — Over the past six years, we have been involved in an initiative to create self-sustaining projects in low-income communities in Bangkok. These communities are made up of honest, genuine people who are hungry for opportunity. They do not want to leave their communities but want the chance to improve them. Essentially, the projects help people help themselves by giving them the dignity of earning their own money. In doing so, the projects have an immediate, continuous impact on peoples’ lives.
We are currently working with CIMB Bank and other companies to ensure that their Corporate Social Responsibility funds are employed in ways that allow employees to become involved as they fit into each company’s directives and objectives in giving back to the communities in which they operate.
Kids’ Day Out — Each year The Rotary Club of Bangkok South, the Pakkred Home for Handicapped Children, plus several other institutions work together to organize a day out at the beach for over 200 handicapped and underprivileged children.
The Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya, and Shrewsbury International School provide the venue. The latter sends along 15 to 20 IB volunteers and has been the Event Sponsor for the past few years. Other regular supporters include Castrol, Bumrungrad Hospital, Coca Cola, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, and Wall’s Ice Cream, many of whom send employees along to join in the day’s celebrations.
Up to 150 Bangkok South members, friends, members of other clubs, and students and teachers from Shrewsbury School, volunteer to help these amazing children enjoy the sand, the surf, and the sun. “Kids Day Out” is one of the most rewarding and genuinely heartwarming events of the year for everyone involved.
Disadvantaged and Youth — Each year the Rotary Club of Bangkok South undertakes a number of projects with various institutions that care for the young, the deaf, the blind, the handicapped, and the ill. Over the years, we have funded several projects at Thungmahamek, designed to teach the children skills they can use later in life, or through which they can generate income for the home and themselves. These include tools for batik printing, sewing machines, equipment for balloon making and tools for production of decorative display cases and display items.
Library Kits – We also have a long-standing tradition of working with local Rotary Clubs throughout Thailand to improve the lives and opportunities of the rural population. These programs include clean drinking water systems for schools, hospital equipment, student scholarships, and school educational supplies.
How we raise funds
Coins on Silom – ‘Coins on Silom’ is our annual, high profile fundraising festival staged along Silom Road. During this unique event, to be held on Oct. 30 this year, a broad red tape is laid along the sidewalk on both sides of Silom Road with stands prominently placed to display sponsor logos. Rotarians and other volunteers accept donations from the public and each donor is invited to place the logo of one of our platinum sponsors on the tape. Throughout the day, thousands of people take a few moments to contribute and in doing so, help those in need. Through these small contributions and our corporate sponsors, we can continue to fund worthwhile projects throughout Thailand to help support those most in need. Corporate Sponsors are an integral part of every project RCBS undertakes. “Coins on Silom” sponsorship at the various levels, (Platinum: THB 75,000, Gold: THB 50,000, Silver: THB 20,000, and Stand: THB 12,500) ensures a company’s name and logo will be featured to varying degrees before, during and after the event, with the larger sponsorships including space on the day to highlight company products and programs.
