enjoy a more private rooftop experience or mingle with the crowd and the dj at the roof @ 38th bar.

_NUM5104A newcomer to Bangkok’s sky bar scene, The Roof @ 38th Bar (Mode Sathorn Hotel, 144 North Sathorn Road, Silom, 02 623 4555, www.modesathorn.com) opened recently to offer a less glitzy and more heterogeneous rooftop alternative to other such lounges in town.

The private and separate disposition of the tables and seats invites guests to have intimate conversations while gazing over Sathorn’s skyline from one of the several spots along the brick- and stone-tiled terrace tracks around the roof, offering 360-degree views from the 38th floor. If you feel more social, however, you can also choose to mingle with the crowd that gathers around the bar and the DJ’s chill-out beats on weekends. With a contemporary design where red, purple, and blue prevail, this fashionable new rooftop lounge and tapas bar enters the market as a good option for both chilling and partying.

_NUM5134The bar also features an exclusive high table for dinner parties. Either there, at the natural wood-topped stretch-bar area, or at your table, you will enjoy trying one of the signature drinks, such as Sky Sangria, Sex on the Roof, and Vanilla Sour Martini, besides margaritas, mojitos, daiquiris, martinis, Champagne concoctions, and many more from a drinks menu with more than 200 options.

The food menu offers a selection of tapas such as “Moroccan spices” (marinated leg of lamb with thyme, olive oil, and Moroccan spices served with mint sauce, THB 360++); dumplings; sushi; “Tartambé Alsacienne” (a thin crusty bread with a choice of toppings, THB 390++); and other Eastern and Western classics, such mixed satays (THB 250++) and salsa & guacamole (THB 180++).

Still in soft opening, the The Roof is slowly becoming better known and, as part of the trendy Mode Sathon Hotel, it could eventually be among the most fashionable rooftop bars in town.

    Open daily from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
