Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok is perfect for business and leisure travelers alike.

    By Percy Roxas

Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok was designed with an underlying fictional love story concept, our guide tells us, as we enter the door of this sleek, stylish new hotel on Sukhumvit 24. She pointed us to the two sculpted figures in the lobby area, showing the “lovers” as they were apparently about to start their journey. Great conversational stuff as the fictional couple’s story is, however, they are mere sidelights to what this luxuriously modernistic hotel aims for: to provide consistent, professional, efficient hotel service – with a heart. Very Hilton, indeed.

Exe Plus KingIn fact, the opening of Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok — in the heart of prestigious Sukhumvit, one of Bangkok’s most central business and entertainment districts – is a tacit reaffirmation of the Hilton Worldwide’s commitment to the group’s growing presence in the country. Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok is the ninth Hilton Worldwide hotel in the kingdom.

At first glance, you might think Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok is just another of the mushrooming design-oriented contemporary hotels in the city. The feel and atmosphere at the lobby is totally young, warm, and laidback, in keeping with the new lobby-cum-social hub trend attuned with the changing hotel guest demographics. It’s easy to feel at home sitting in the lobby alone.

When you start walking around, you realize the hotel is indeed not meant to be just a home-away-from home; it’s meant to be a home away from work. I mean, the hotel offers relaxing “distractions” from our daily routines. The restaurants are modernistic, and fresh culinary concepts are reflected in the two specialty restaurants: Scalini and Mondo.

Pool Details 01Scalini, the hotel’s main dining area, serves 1920s-inspired, fine Italian-American food (see related review in our Wine & Dine section) while Mondo takes inspiration from the Mediterranean and serves tapas and antipasto style dishes in a casual setting. Especially tempting are the delights from the charcuterie meat and cheese tower; and the barista bar keeps diners refreshed with fresh coffee. These two dining venues are certainly two welcome additions to the city’s new breed of sophisticated, world-class eateries.

Three meeting rooms in a New York penthouse-styled living area called The Summit are equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual and VIP business amenities, and feature innovative dining concepts. Business travelers can host interactive meetings here. There are actually seven meeting spaces, all inspired by New York penthouses — with no detail left to chance, as even a casual observer will notice.

My room on the 9th floor is a good example of how all the 280 spacious guestrooms are designed with guests in mind. There are six room types, the highlights being the suites with optional Executive floor privileges. Mine is obviously geared for a solo business-type, judging from the room size. It suits my needs (not much for an overnight stay, anyway) just fine. It’s spacious enough to unwind and rest, although there’s a working table if I get the itch to catch up on some work or keep myself connected with the outside world.

Pool Bar 01Of course, I can also get connected at the Executive Lounge, where guests usually start their day with complimentary breakfast or chill-out when the sun sets. Wi-Fi and office support is free, as is in all public areas, although not necessarily in the rooms.

My favorite place at the hotel is the Lapse, the rooftop infinity pool, which simply wows with its sweeping views of the Bangkok’s skyline. I really relished the time I spent lounging at the pool bar, although I did wish I had more time to enjoy their fully equipped, 24-hour Precor gym.

If you want to be among the first to experience this stylish new hotel, make a reservation now as the hotel currently offers a “1,000 HHonors Points Per Night” promotion, which rewards guests with 1,000 HHonors points per night for rooms booked for a minimum of two-night stay from now till Nov. 30. Membership to Hilton HHonors is free and applications are given you when you check in.

As a participant in the guest loyalty program, you may earn and redeem Hilton HHonors points. Gold and Diamond HHonors members also receive free breakfast and Wi-Fi connection in their guestrooms.

Conveniently situated 300m from the BTS Phrom Phong skytrain station, Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok provides unparalleled reach to the most popular landmarks and attractions in the city; it is indeed a perfect base for business and leisure travelers alike.
