‘Koh Samui is a place that we visit regularly; a must for my family and me as often as we can escape.’
By Percy Roxas.
A holiday destination is one where you can relax and renew from everyday life; a place where you can do as little as you wish, or have options to do much as you wish each day. That’s how Charles Jack, general manager (GM) of The Westin Grand Sukhumvit Bangkok describes his ideal holiday destination. And that is why his favorite holiday destination in Thailand is the Fisherman’s Village at Bophut, Koh Samui.
“This village has it all: from the street-stall markets, numerous restaurants, bars, and shops, to local landmarks and cultural attractions,” says the Australian-born GM. “It’s also a great location to enjoy other activities nearby. It’s so convenient to travel from Bangkok and exceptionally easy once you arrive.”
Charles discovered the Fisherman’s Village during his first visit in 2008. “Friends told us we must try a restaurant there,” he said, “and we then discovered the whole area as a ‘must visit’ place each time we travel to Koh Samui. Over the years it has developed even more with the Friday night market. Last year, we stayed right in the heart of the area, which connected us to the place even more.
Indeed since their first visit, Charles and his family have been visiting Samui each year, whether just as a family or with extended family members. They would stay for a night or two, and sometimes for a week.
And it’s not just the great restaurants at the Fisherman’s Village. They enjoy mingling with vendors and shop owners at the Friday night market as well.
“Also, it’s a very central location if your holiday energy and desire takes you out to other activities along the north coast,” he adds. “Activities nearby are numerous including exploring on all-terrain vehicles, go carting, beaches, and golf.
“Simply put, Samui is a great destination for everyone – family, extended family or your loved one.”
