Sofitel So Bangkok, the city’s first truly urban design hotel, adds a new dimension to its deluxe facilities with the addition of its So VIP Suite, a startlingly spacious open-design duplex that’s the last word in modern design, luxury and technology.
With the hotel’s overall design concept centred on the traditional Five Elements – Earth, Metal, Wood, Water and Fire – So VIP Suite, located on the 27th floor, is the ultimate accommodation with a water theme that is brilliantly captured in the white-veined black marble of the floors and other surface finishes. Covering 233 sq. m. and comprising master bedroom, guest bedroom, living room, and dining room, plus large Jacuzzi, the layout is a masterly work of open-design planning.
The living space forms a spectacular and welcoming focal point. Not only is it extraordinarily spacious, it is also multi-functional with a choice of lounging and more formal sitting areas, a long dining table that comfortable seats 8-10 guests, and, as the highlight to it all, a huge Jacuzzi behind a glass wall. So, whether it’s for quiet relaxation, a fun gathering with friends, or an elegant dinner party, the space is as flexible as it is luxurious.
While the en-suite master bedroom occupies the upper floor, virtually all the living area is two storeys high, which gives a breath-taking sense of the luxury of sheer space. This is emphasised by floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides that afford exceptional views of both Lumpini Park and the city with the Chao Phraya River on the horizon. As So VIP Suite occupies a corner location, the building’s architecture is also given full play with one end of what is essentially a rectangular structure having a curved side. The overall effect is one of varying shapes, forms, and angles that add life and movement in what is an endlessly fascinating space.
The interior décor, created by well-known Thai designer Pongthep Sagulkul, with decorative items designed by French couturier Monsieur Christian Lacroix, is stylishly contemporary with clean, elegant lines and furnishing that combines the modern with the chic, comfort with sophistication. Colours are used to add highlights but otherwise tones are largely neutral, allowing the black marble and shades of grey a unifying effect.
Matching the contemporary design elements are high-tech facilities that range from Apple Mac Mini multimedia entertainment, with TV, movies, internet and computer mode, to electric frosted glass technology for instant privacy in the Jacuzzi. For visual display there is a 55-inch LCD TV. Among other amenities are Illy espresso machine, complementary in-room private bar, and butler’s pantry. To complete the exclusive experience there is access to Club Signature, serving all-day refreshments, breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails.
The upstairs master bedroom is a mini suite in itself, consisting of king-size bed, writing desk, modern circular sofa, walk-in closet, bathroom with his/her washbasins and circular tub, separate Jacuzzi and shower stall. All is as much an expression of contemporary luxury as the downstairs living space.
To mark the launch of this very special accommodation, the hotel is offering a special “So VIP Package” that includes 1 night’s stay with breakfast, spa treatment for two, and dining experience prepared by Iron Chef Award winner Paul Smart all at THB 30,000++ for bookings made directly with the hotel. The offer is available from now until end of May 2013.
