Bangkok – Centara Hotels & Resorts is celebrating its 30th anniversary on Dec. 12. Part of the Central Group, the kingdom’s biggest retailer, and formed initially as Central Hotels & Resorts, the company’s first hotel was the Hyatt Central Plaza Bangkok, today known as Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok.
From the one property has grown a chain of hotels and resorts that currently includes 38 deluxe and first-class properties covering all the major tourist destinations in Thailand, and a further 18 resorts in the Maldives, Vietnam, Bali, Sri Lanka and Mauritius, bringing the present total to 56 properties.
There are currently six hotel brands within the Centara main brand, ensuring that specific categories such as couples, families, individuals, long-stay guests and meetings and incentives groups will all find accommodation that is appropriate to their needs.
Centara operates 24 branches of Spa Cenvaree, one of Thailand’s most luxurious and innovative spa brands, together with its newly launched value brand Cense by Spa Cenvaree, which provides core spa services for busy travelers. The company’s Kids’ Club is available at all the family-friendly resorts to ensure that the youngsters and teens are taken care of.
Centara also has three major convention centers in Bangkok, and two in the northeast of Thailand, at Udon Thani and Khon Kaen.

Bangkok – Amari has announced its partnership with BBC Worldwide, to introduce its international hit reality TV format, “Dancing with the Stars,” to Thailand.
“Dancing with the Stars” is one of BBC Worldwide’s Global Brands, and in 2010 was named the world’s most successful reality TV format by the Guinness Book of Records. The show pairs local celebrities with professional dancers who each week teach their partner a dance routine from the world of ballroom or Latin. Every week, the pairs perform their routines in front of a set of judges who mark each couple out of 10. Viewers are also able to vote for their favorite couple with scores from viewers and the judges combined.
With the addition of Thailand, there are 43 local versions of “Dancing with the Stars” around the world spanning six continents. The brand has also extended into live events, gaming and digital properties.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with BBC Worldwide to bring such a globally successful TV show to Thailand,“ said Peter Henley, president and CEO of ONYX Hospitality Group. “What better way to bring the colors and rhythms of modern Asia to life than through the medium of dance and music. We look forward to embracing “Dancing with the Stars” and introducing the energy and excitement of the show to our Amari guests and the Thai viewing public.”
For the first time, the show will be financed via an Ad-Funded Programming (AFP) model, with Amari as the exclusive sponsor of the show. “Dancing with the Stars” premieres on Thailand’s Channel 7 in January 2013 with seven 90-minute episodes. The Thai series will be independently produced by MCL (Metine Company Ltd) and Kantana Group PLC and funded by advertising. Amari will feature in ad breaks throughout the series and will have logo signage within the show.

Centara will be managing the hotel under a contract signed in February 2010 with the Cliff Residence Company Limited, a division of the Tulip Group. The newly built nine-storey hotel will have 161 rooms and suites and is being developed under a budget of Bt1.1 billion including land.
“We have worked very closely with the Tulip Group to bring this project to fruition, and we are delighted to be announcing the opening date,” says Thirayuth Chirathivat, chief executive officer of Centara Hotels & Resorts (www.centarahotelsresorts.com). “The location is superb, being in the center of the exclusive Phratamnak district and within just two minutes of Phratamnak Beach, and the design of the hotel is that of understated club-like luxury,” he said “We have enormous confidence in the future of Pattaya, and regard this beautiful property as being an important strategic step in our growth plans.”
