Supanniga Eating Room combines a family’s passion for different cuisines and their intention to reintroduce long-lost recipes for today’s diners.

Supanniga Eating Room is the latest culinary exploration by Thanaruek Laoraowirodge, owner of the Supanniga Home Khon Kaen, and co-owner of Somtum Der with Tatchai Nakapan, one of the initiators behind Minibar Royale and EST.33. The restaurant reflects Thanaruek’s passion in different cuisines and desire to re-introduce long-lost recipes such as those passed down from generation to generation by Thanaruek’s grandmother (Khunyai) shared by her firends and family.

The idea started with friends and family decided to enjoy some of Khunyai’ s home cooked meals at Supanniga Home Khon Kaen. This brought her traditional cooking formulas back to life and when guests tried them, they very well received. Thanaruek decided it is time to offer these home cookingdelights to the people of Bangkok — at everyday (affordable) prices. Khunyai’s recipes make the dining experience at Supanniga Eating Room more delight — even encouragng some guests, as they themselves admitted, to revisit their own family’s kitchens, reunite with thier own family heritages, and rediscover those old familiar flavoars.

Thus the 80-seater restaurant becomes a place, an ideal eating spot right in the heart of the city where friends and family can share and enjoy truly authentic and savory Thai food.

“Supanniga Eating Room is like ordinary family dining room where tested flavors that have been passed on generations of tables since 80 years ago can be enjoyed again,” Thanaruek said. “These recipes have been given contemporary twist, just perfect for Bangkok foodies. ”

    Foods and Drinks

Dishes served at Supanniga are inspired by the original dishes from Khunyai’s hometown, Trat and Chantaburi, with a little tint of Isan touch. Only premium quality ingredients from those seaside towns, such as fish sauce, kapi, dried shrimps, pepper, and salted fish, are used.

To make the traditional dishes even more delicious, the Supanniga team searches for only the right ingredients. Diners can choose from light dishes such as pu jah, blended crabmeat and pork seasoned with purely refined pepper from Chantaburi and steamed inside crab shell, a dish that needs meticulous preparation; or khao krieb nahm jim (the steamed flat rice noodle with spicy dried shrimp dressing), a dish hard to find anywhere.

Different types of curries, stews, and soups cater individual preferences: from gaeng pa “sparrow on chopping board” (chunk of sticky fish meat minced and mixed with spicy herbal), panang nue lai (beef chunk red curry topped with fresh coconut and chopped kaffir lime leaves), a dish which guarantees to give a melt-in-your-mouth effect; moo cha muang (chunks of tender pork meats stewed with Thai herbs and cha muang leaves), a dish that not too many Thais know about; to famous curries such as gaeng masaman nue (slow-cooked masaman curry with tender beef shanks, potatoes, and peanuts).

Vegetables’ lovers will be enticed by mouthwatering green dishes such as ka lum tod num pla (fried Chinese cabbage gravied with premium fish sauce from Trad), or pad ka nah pla kem koh chang (Hong Kong kale stir-fried with salted fish from Koh Chang). Here, fresh vegetables are carefully picked to go with prime ingredients from the sea.

Of course, there is nothing better than accompanying these flavorful selections with a perfectly planned drink list. Guests can choose Supanniga Eating Room’s :Signature Virgins,” a range of sophisticated mocktails, a perfect blend of freshly squeezed juices that makes the meal more fulfilling. Other signature cocktails are on the list, starting from a light one such as “Kate’s Mojito,” a mojito with dark rum, to the enchanting “Lemon Drop.” Fine wine selection can also be paired excellently with the food.

    The Atmosphere

Supanniga Eating Room was a typical shophouse transformed into something extraordinary. The décor clings to the same feeling one gets from Supanniga Home Khon Kaen, a warm and comfortable feeling as if one is sitting in one’s own dining room, with relaxing music yet cheerful.

The use of traditional Isan utensils such as kapom table or mai fuem (Isan weaving utensil), transport diners through different geography. Theme colors such as black, gray, and yellow — the signature yellow from Supanniga flower, which balances softness with masculinity.

The ambiance at the ground floor and the mezzanine is casual and laidback and diners will feel at home enjoying their meals and quality time with their loved ones. There’s a private function area on the 2nd floor, a chill-out spot with bar, where drinks and foods can be enjoyed even more.

Suppaniga Eating Room is the place to go for comfort food made from authentic time-tested recipes to ensure a memorable dining experience in every sense of the word.
