Pratunam for a chic night-out fun: Are you kidding? Don’t look now, but with new contemporary hotels rising in and around this popular RTW-shopping area in Bangkok, we aren’t. To be honest, it’s probably not in the same way the Thonglor-Ekkamai areas have been developing in recent years, but still, if you’re in the area and in need of a place for some chill-out, relaxing drink and company amid a chic, friendly surrounding, Pratunam can now certainly fulfill your needs. At least that’s how we felt once inside the Platinum Lounge of Novotel Bangkok Platinum recently.
Located on the 6th floor of the one-year-old hotel, Platinum Lounge has that casual, laidback vibe and friendly energy that we think can pull back those people longing for the days of those good hotel lounges as great chill-out and unwinding places. You know, smart and chic but not pretentious, warm and relaxing with a service that is not hotel stuffy, and prices even that average salarymen can afford.
Designed and decorated around the “diamond concept,” it is actually quite sophisticated, and, why yes, quite ideal for a quiet chat with friends, casual meetings, or recovering from a long day of sightseeing or shopping. Now we’re not saying that this is the ultimate place for a Ladies’ Night in Bangkok, but you might find yourself enjoying it here, as we did.
A great day to discover the Platinum Lounge, if you still haven’t, is Wednesday night, when it holds its signature ladies’ night, dubbed as “High Heel & Lipstick Night,” launched only in Nov. 7. Now every Wednesday night, ladies can enjoy a special all-night “Buy 1, Get 1 Free” drink promotion. (So ladies, put on your favorite pair of Louboutin or Jimmy Choo shoes and get additional Bt10 discount per inch of heel worn!)
The drinks are tempting, to say the least, not only in prices, which starts at Bt220++ only but also in their creative concoction and serving. The signature drink of the night, “Cocktail on the Heel,” is served on a white, glittering high-heeled shoe. Of course, other cocktails—“Margarita,” “Cosmopolitan,” “Pina Colada,” “Sex on the Beach,” and “Platinum Absolut Shooters” – are just as mouthwateringly wonderful.
All prepared by an award-winning bartender, the ladies would enjoy them as much as the latest fashion dish, showbiz gossips, and any kind of chic-chats. And so would their male friends. By the way, Platinum Lounge is managed by Wayo Kuhatasanadeekul, Bangkok’s “Bartender Champion” in 2009, who ensures you don’t just get a drink, but always an outstanding enjoyable one.
If you’re coming with an empty stomach, don’t worry. Platinum Lounge has an ongoing Thai tapas promotion that features delectable bites as well as a range of other appetizers guests might fancy to complement the drinks. Pretty reasonably priced too (just a little over Bt400++ for six items). And anyway, The Square restaurant is just on the opposite side, with its kitchen open until 10 p.m., if you’re up for a full meal.
And what’s a lounge without music. In this regard, the hotel decided on a live duo, when others are now into centralized piped-in music or DJ stuff. The duo, “CH2” — composed of a Filipina (Christine) and a Central African (Herve), who are both experienced vocalists, having both performed in other 5-star hotels, clubs and bars in Thailand. If you enjoy acoustic covers — easy listening — of the classic jazz, pop, R&B, Latin-Bossa and contemporary tunes from 7 p.m. till midnight Tuesdays thru Sundays, they can make your day.
