Nestled in a quiet alcove situated at the end of Thonglor soi 15, Gossip Eats and Drinks promises to become the brand new watering hole for Bangkok urbanites desiring an intimate locale for nocturnal gatherings. The two-storey restaurant and bar is the second gastronomy pet project from the individuals who established Oskar Bistro on Sukhumvit soi 11. However unlike its jazzy cousin, Gossip Eats and Drinks is a destination designed to be a home-away-from-home that is the ultimate sensory experience.
Dressed in an atmosphere that celebrates the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Andy Warhol (should they have met and become good friends, that is), the restaurant interior harks back to a golden period of history fixated on Roxy Hart, men drinking Manhattans, Marilyn Monroe, and the infamous ladies who lunch. Retro-chic in design, but with a cosmopolitan flair, guests will be thrilled with the titillating surroundings.
But it is the cuisine that will have them booking for availability three weeks in advance. As stated by Julien Lavigne, chef de cuisine, the menu is the lovechild of the Mediterranean Sea and the Thai sun. Previously the chef of D’Sens at the Dusit Thani Hotel, he is well versed in gastronomy. A kindred relationship of Asian ingredients with European mastery reveals the variety of dishes that would have even Julia Child gasping for breath!
Notable selections include Gossip Beef Tartare that showcases the talents of French cookery with traditional Thai spices, Braised Veal and Marrowbone a medley of flavours which explains its best seller status among guests, and last but certainly not least, the exquisite Marshmallow Chocolate Fondant that is an exciting blend of chocolate, cherries and of course, marshmallows baked to perfection—heavenly!
However, a dining experience is not complete without the presence of its beverages. Gossip displays a collection of cocktails solely unique to the restaurant. Under the wizardry of Karol Ansaldi, bar manager, each drink is original and tailor-made as per the tastes and adventurous spirit of its creator. Amidst the selection there are two special concoctions that have the ability to seduce the wary heart: Racyrose and Tender Love. The former is a feisty blend of chilli, lemongrass and vanilla infused vodka drawn together by the intoxicating allure of a single rose bud. Do not be fooled by the latter’s name, for it is a masculine soiree infused with Tonka, vanilla-chocolate liquor and cinnamon.
