Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School (LCBD) recently held a grand reception to celebrate the victory of its book “Somtum: A Meeting of Flavors, Tastes & Cultures,” which won the World’s Best Cookbook Award 2012 (Asia category). A glittering array of hi-so and showbiz celebrities attended the event.
The first part of the book examines the origins and history of somtum – the evolution of different types of somtum; its health benefits; what is usually eaten with it; and what local and international wines and other beverages go best with it. The second half of the book contains 23 recipes, which are mostly classic French or fusion dishes that incorporate the tastes and flavors and ingredients of somtum in very creative ways. Included in the book are appetizers, desserts and breads, cakes and petits fours; fish and seafood, and meat and poultry recipes.
LCBD brand ambassador, Phol Tantasanthien, and Thai celebrity chef, Khun Reed, also contributed their own recipes for the book. The book is now on sale at Bt1,000 (Thailand) and Bt1,500 (overseas price). All revenue generated by the book sales will go to Operation Smile Thailand.
